Our 6 Tip guide to School Summer deep cleaning

1. Make a plan- Many schools are often unsure where they should start when it comes to cleaning. It’s important to go in with a clear plan of what you intend to do, as well as a timescale for each area.  Make a list of everything that needs to be cleaned so you can make sure that you have the proper cleaning equipment required for each area and job, including brushes, mops, squeegees etc. If you need any advice on how to plan the cleaning of your school we would be more than happy to share our expertise and advice.

2. Consider high-traffic areas- Floors are high-traffic areas which are in constant use during the school term. Students, teachers, staff, and visitors are constantly walking up and down corridors and in and out of classrooms, thus making it hard to ensure regular deep cleaning can take place. Cleaning floors whether hard floor or carpet is very time-consuming, so we recommend this is given priority to ensure the deep clean is completed over the quiet summer months. After flooring, we recommend moving onto other high traffic areas such as toilets, canteen areas and classrooms.

3. Clean and replace your Cleaning Equipment- Before you start the cleaning process, you need to make sure that all your equipment is in good condition. Replace old, damaged and malfunctioning equipment including brush heads, mops, floor pads and mop buckets. This ensures your equipment is up to the challenge of the deep clean and will give you the best possible cleaning results. We supply a huge range of cleaning equipment to suit every budget.

4. Cleaning and Disinfecting- All areas should be cleared to ensure maximum cleaning contact to surfaces, this not only kills germs but also cleans away general grime and dust which will have built up. All high touch points should be wiped down (switches, plugs and door handles). Cleaning products should be used as recommended by your supplier and safety data sheet information, this ensures safety to the user but also to the surfaces being cleaned.

Dusting electronics is also important, as they attract dust and if not cleaned during the school year, they will be in need of some care during the summer. Dust – while seemingly harmless, can destroy sensitive technology if left to accumulate for too long. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) should always be worn if recommended on the product safety sheet, adequate ventilation should always be ensured when using chemicals. Wet floor/ caution signs should be positioned to inform other members of the potential hazards.

5. Evaluate Cleaning Procedures- This is a great time to ensure all cleaning staff have adequate training on how to use cleaning products and equipment in the safest, most effective way and also up to date risk assessments have been performed. We provide FREE on site training for cleaning teams, so please get in touch to learn more about this service we offer.

6. Update Washroom Dispensers- The summer break can be the perfect time to update old, broken soap, toilet paper and hand towel dispensers, as over the academic year they have been in constant use. These are available FREE of charge and we provide a great range of refills to suit every budget and product specific requirement.
